This project is about the transformation of Van Speykstraat in ''Het Oude Westen'' in Rotterdam. By tackling these 3 key points, the ground floor of this street is transformed into a lively meeting place in the center of the neighborhood.

1. Babylon School; the vibrant centerpiece.

This project is about the transformation of Van Speykstraat in ''Het Oude Westen'' in Rotterdam. By tackling these 3 key points, the ground floor of this street is transformed into a lively meeting place in the center of the neighborhood.

1. Babylon School; the vibrant centerpiece.

1.1 Activities for students and local residents get a place in the program.
1.2 The activities are made visible through the open facades that the school will have. These encourage participation.
1.3 The nolli space of the school is extended to a larger time slot.

2. Ground floor locations will be redesigned.

2.1 They are runned by street residents; this increases employment opportunities and creates strong social cohesion.
2.2 The locations work together with the Babylon school and serve as a practical learning locationfor the students.
2.3 The empty offices at van speykstraat ... becomes a location for cultural.

3. Differentiation in the facades create meeting places.

3.1 These meeting places are provided with outdoor furniture to encourage this.
3.2 In front and behind the facade places are created where social interaction takes place.
