The Cathedral of Work is a place where working with one’s hands, craftmanship , entrepeneurship and education all come together. It tells the story of Den Haag and de Binckhorst as a city of makers - a city that values its industry, it’s practical knowledge and its working culture.

Like a traditional cathedral, this building is not only a space to work - it is a place of pride and identity and celebrating the industrious city.…

The Cathedral of Work is a place where working with one’s hands, craftmanship , entrepeneurship and education all come together. It tells the story of Den Haag and de Binckhorst as a city of makers - a city that values its industry, it’s practical knowledge and its working culture.

Like a traditional cathedral, this building is not only a space to work - it is a place of pride and identity and celebrating the industrious city. It makes visible what oftens happens behind closed door and is fighting for space: skill, creativity and dedication of people who shape the city with their hands.

It is also about the whole ecosystem of work, spaces and learning where the Cathedral is embedded in.

This project is a take on the growing issue of the ever growing lack of space for (creative) work and manual labour. The lack of space is a result of financial pressure on areas of work, and if we are not cautious, we will lose important jobs and people in our cities.
