Connecting Corridors: My Vision for the Citrus Auction

What if the journey through a building could feel endless, guiding you through a continuous flow of conversation and connection? That’s something I want to tell you more about.

Welcome to my presentation the unending route of the Citrus Auction. In this presentation I want to tell you more about: my analysis, the vision and the design. So let’s start with the analysis.

The first time I visited the citrus auction, I noticed something interesting: an uninterrupted path that winds through the building. This "unending route" has become the core of my analysis and design.

This endless route is highlighted by the railings that follows this endless rout of the building. You can see these railings in the stairwell, in the line of the window frames, and even in the auction room upstairs. These railings guiding you almost everywhere through the endless route.

At the heart of this endless route is the entresol. This is a turning point where you can go in either direction. So you can go upstairs and downstairs. Originally used as a cloakroom, the entresol served as a brief stop before entering important rooms like the auction hall or the sample room. Today, this space is crucial in emphasizing the endless route.

I want to transform the entresol into a space where the endless route is not only evident but also where people can slow down, talk, and sit. This aligns perfectly with my broader vision for the Citrus Auction. This become a place for knowledge sharing. So downstairs you can follow  workshops and upstairs lectures.

Imagine attending a lecture upstairs, and then walking back down with someone. As you pass through the mezzanine, the design subtly encourages you to stop and continue your conversation. The floor pattern changes to influence your pace and create spaces for deeper interactions.

The main path of the infinite route is marked by large linoleum squares, which naturally make you walk faster. These are two squares joined together. However, if you’re deep in conversation and want to discuss the lecture further, the floor pattern shifts subtly to smaller squares, encouraging you to pause and talk.

For those who wish to stay longer, there are designated seating areas. These areas are separated by the railing and the smaller floor pattern. The railing is essential; it extends from the stairwell to a column and up to the ceiling, creating a smooth transition between standing and sitting spaces. This detail is carefully crafted.

We’ve reused the existing railing and repurposed panels from the auction room to create tables and chairs. The tables and chairs are versatile: on one side, the table is used for sitting and talking about the lecture, and on the other, you can sit and work.

Through these design choices, the mezzanine becomes a key part of the Citrus Auction House, reinforcing the infinite route. It’s not just a corridor anymore; it’s a place where conversations flow, ideas are exchanged, and the journey through the building is enriched.

Thank you for your attention. I hope this presentation has given you a clear understanding of my vision for enhancing the infinite route within the Citrus Auction House.
