De Groene huiskamer van de Buurt is a green outdoor space that is accessible for all habitants of the city. The proposal for a mixed-use building on this site offers a place where you can walk, connect, play, learn and experiment.

The transparant roof rests on a light timber construction. The load bearing walls are rammed earth from a mix with Rotterdam clay. The oyster shells inside the wall are an alternative for gravel stones. An additional advantage of the oyster shell is that it’s full of lime, what makes the wall more water resistent and it’s good binder for the clay. All the walls can be given back to nature again without any negative effects. In this way a shell becomes a building material instead of city trash.
