Walking along the Binnenrotte the tall buildings show themselves with great grandeur one by one. At the far end of the long open space, there is a small station with people waiting for busses, trams and trains. Before the iron arch of the station appears, something unexpected happends, a subtle pavilion settles. While the old church is slightly hidden from the long road, the pavilion gives a subtle hint of bending forward. It suggest making an effort to grasp the attention of its passengers. The building is tall, narrow and a little too deep. The light strikes its solid brick walls and creates dark shadows under its overhanging upper body which leans on a shiny pink Travertine pillar, reflecting the light and seductive to catch your eyes. While the building is trying to catch the attention from its potential guests/ visitors, some people seem ignorant and let the building fade away by all the other eye catchers along the everlasting Binnenrotte. The pavilion seems to play a game between concealing and revealing with its passengers. Once it succeeds to seduce, the passenger slowly comes closer and with each step they gradually become elevated to its inner peace court. Before one meets the entrance one goes around the corner and enters on a pedestal. Once inside, a monumental staircase will reveal itself where light hits the stairs in a circular shape. While going up, the next stairways appears illuminated with light from above and leads to outer court. In this area one will be surrounded in a completely contrasting environment from the Binnenrottes openness in the city s heart.. The space defines itself by a landscape of geometric sculptures framed by the high walls of the building. Enabling new encounters and connect oneself directly to the abstraction of space.
