This primary school is enetirly built entirely in wood construction. The pedagogical program is based on plenty of space and fresh air. That is why all classrooms have an adjacent ‘Twin’ outside classroom. The construction has been used in a very functional way. It forms the framework in which the timberframe walls and windowframes are placed. In addition to this, it is the basis for fixed furniture, such as wall cabinets and study places.

The floor plan is built up in three circles. At the center of the school is the auditorium, which can be used for school-wide cultural activities and sports. This space can be involved in the rest of the school through the sliding doors. Around this space is the corridor with learning places for group work and individual places, which are incorporated in the wall. The functional areas for the teachers are adjacent to this corridor, all with a large window overlooking the surrounding squares. The last circle consists of the most important part of the school; the clusters of classrooms. Here the students spend the most time. They are spacious and contain fixed furniture incorporated in the walls. In addition, each room has access to an outdoor classroom; which is accessible through the large folding doors.

The construction consists of a concrete foundation with gluelaminated beams. The beams are positioned on a grid of 2000 mm x 2000 mm. Timberframe walls and steel frames have been placed between this grid. The slatted frames in the classrooms have folding doors, which connect the class to their adjacent outside classroom. The roof construction consists of a waffle-shaped construction of beams. These bars make the grid visual and are also practical to use. They are good for sound insulation and also serve as a functional grid for lamps and curtains. The roof package with natural insulation is on top of the construction. The top layer consists out of a green roof. In the cross-section you can see the difference in height between the classrooms and the hall, which ensures a beautiful light from above. The tactility of the wooden construction is visible both outside and inside.
