Some time ago, after visiting Bramante’s Tempietto in Rome I had a dream. It depicted that the small structure was just the tip of a vast, seemingly endless underground construction. Months later, the day that my relationship ended, I had the same dream again.
Some time ago, after visiting Bramante’s Tempietto in Rome I had a dream. It depicted that the small structure was just the tip of a vast, seemingly endless underground construction. Months later, the day that my relationship ended, I had the same dream again.
In the first phase of this project I tried to capture this space from memory and build upon the constructions that I saw before me. This is represented by the black and white stage.
Building upon the first stage I started visualizing how, for me, the space could turn into reality by placing it back into the context of Rome, considering passing of time and seasonal change.
The third and final stage was about trying to make the space my own. By connecting spatial elements, through designed follies, with my own memories the space became something outside of the dreamworld.
The space, clearly connected to the overcoming of my heartbreak became a memory cabinet I can fill to the brim. To an onlooker the 36 drawings may be just images but to me personally they're full of meaning.
