The Neapolitan palazzo forms the basic typology for the design of a contemporary residential building in this studio. The typology from the Renaissance is characterized by intertwining and consistent implementation of the method of access, placement of façade openings and the sequence of spaces. Subtle detailing makes the architecture of the palazzo legible. The porch with theatrical Italian staircase is the main attraction, a space to stay and reflect identity. The design represents the traditional palazzo and Italian culture: at first sight controlled, but complex in character.
The Mediterranean climate brings with it a different living culture. The kitchen is the main living space in a house where most of the time is spent. Due to the increasing temprature, the living space is oriented around a loggia. The loggia is the connecting space in the apartments. It functions as an extension of the kitchen as a living room, but more like an open air variant.
