Rotterdam has added a new landmark to its collection. A place where people through culture, age and backgrounds meet en have the ability to connect and play.
Near the Maashaven, on the very corner of the Arfkiaanderwijk, three different urban districts of south connect with the border of Katendrecht. This triangular shaped public space highly used by the local community. In summers even till late at night.
This location lies on the border between the hip north of Rotterdam and the sometimes downtalked on south of Rotterdam. The main goal of the design has been to make a space where these to seemingly contrasting areas start to interact.
Two highly contrasting shapes intersecting eacht other in the form of play create the “Trap op Zuid”. The triangle representing the diffent urban area’s, the difference in culture, age and forms of play. Whilst the cirle represents the union of them all.
The triangler shaped base consists out of two stairs going up. one starts at the putselaan and flows up towards Katendrecht. Whilst the otherone starts at Katendrecht and flows up to one of it’s highst points, viewing into the putse laand.
Three objects have been added into the triangular platform that emphasis play and perspective. All with their own abilties.
